The Jungian Approach to Fairy Tales
Methods and Techniques
This free introductory video lesson provides insight into why Jungians view fairy tales as an important key to understanding the human psyche. The lesson begins with an overview of Carl Jung's psychological theories and provides a foundational understanding of how our personal psychological development closely mirrors the classic hero's journey often depicted in fairy tales. Drawing on the insights of Marie-Louise von Franz, the lesson highlights the importance of fairy tales as offering offer the most unfiltered reflection of unconscious processes, stripped of the complex cultural overlays found in formal mythology. The lesson concludes with an outline of the topics that are covered in the full eight module course: Jung 106: Jung and Fairy Tales.
